“The Big Yellow One’s the Sun!”

Well, it definitely gets harder to make time for blogging when you get back into the real world routine and you’re no longer on vacation.  School has come back with a vengeance for me, and I’ve been battling a cold (which i just passed on to my lovely wife…sorry honey!) and Laura has had a lot on her plate updating her company’s marketing programs.  But, we still had a great weekend with each other and friends and activities.

The weekend started for us on Friday night.  My favorite comedian came to Augusta!  Yes, Brian Regan graced Augusta Ga with his comedic genius.  Laura and I bought tickets for the event a month or so ago and we had been so excited, so when the evening finally arrived to attend his show, we were pretty ecstatic despite me having a cold. I figured, if laughter is the best medicine, I would be cured in about, oh, 2 minutes and 26 seconds so I was definitely not going to miss this one.  The show was gut-busting hilarious.  He started right away poking fun of Augusta International Airport with it’s one baggage claim area.  From there he made us cry talking about walkie-talkies, tennis, trains, the hilarity of New Years, the awkwardness of dancing etc.  The show was so fun that the two hours flew by and we weren’t really ready to leave. Unfortunately, his jokes did not cure my sickness, and in fact his show made my abs a little bit sore from so much laughing which would immediately be followed by coughing and the addition of yet another cough drop into my mouth to get ready for his next bit.  We ran into a lot of folks we knew there which was fun to discover that we are not the only Regan fans.  We tried to take some pictures of him on stage, but his shirt was so ridiculously white, with the spotlights on him the pictures came out like he had this angelic halo of comedy around him.  Needless to say they didn’t turn out.  So instead, here are a few of my favorite comedy bits from him for you to enjoy!  And I must say, I do hope that he comes back to Augusta soon, but if he is anywhere close Laura and I would always be up for seeing him with friends!

So as I said before we ran into a bunch of our friends at the show, and our friends Adam and Courtney from the company that Laura works for invited us to hang out with them and grab some drinks afterwards.  We said, “of course.”  After the show let out we drove down to Bistro 491 in Surrey Center to reminisce about Brian Regan, talk about our other favorite comedians, things we like to do, life plans, etc.  We had a great time together with great conversation and nothing can be better than winding down an evening with creme brulee (my favorite dessert), a glass of Shiraz, and great company.  By the way, the restaurant looks amazing so Laura and I will have to try it and rate it on the BRRS for your eating pleasure!
The next morning, we slept in and kind of had a low key day in preparation for Laura’s yearly company party.  The party was held at the Marriot in Downtown Augusta.  The hotel was actually really nice.  I didn’t know there was such a nice place located in our humble city but it was quite nice.  So at the company party, I pretty much met everyone that Laura has told me about at work that I hadn’t met yet.  And everyone was very nice.  After small talk and mingling we had a wonderful catered dinner which was followed by dancing (led by a live band) and more conversations with people and eventually, door prizes.  Both of us at this point had mild cold symptoms because I was getting better but Laura was contracting the bug, so we both pretty much lost our voices by the time the evening was done, but it was really fun and I was glad to be able to go to a work function with Laura.
