Weekend Recap: MAU Bowling, Settlers, and Takosushi!

Hi Everyone! I’m back with a brief recap of our past weekend. As I write, Jason is working on perfecting a video collage of our Memorial Day Weekend with my family, so hopefully that post will up soon as well.

This weekend was a pretty normal, quiet, and HOT one in Augusta. We started the weekend off with a bike ride on Friday night. Bike riding is our new favorite hobby and we go at least twice a week around various neighborhoods near our house, by the locks in Evans, or on the Greenway in North Augusta. First, Jason got a new bike for Christmas… see here:

Then, this past month, the bike he got from Target went on sale, so I got a new bike too! ๐Ÿ™‚ Then, a few came the next needed investment of a bike rack. We got that last month to go on a ride with our friends one weekend. Next up is helmets, which we still need but don’t want to fork out the money for – here’s hoping no wrecks come our way until we get some!

After the bike ride, I got curious about a website called Quibids. I had seen an ad online where you could get an Ipad for like $47 or something ridiculously low like that. Well, of course, I fell for it – hook, line, and sinker… It turns out it is a penny auction site. You pay $ .60 for a bid and each bid makes the items price go up by 1 cent. You have to pay $75 to start off, which I paid since I 100% believed that I could catch on to the system and win tons of items. Right? Wrong! I ended up only winning a measly $15 gift card to Wal-mart until I was all out of bids. Consider this my warning to all fellow gullible and naive people out there – don’t try penny auction sites! Yes, you may get the hang of it eventually, but be prepared to first waste a few hundred dollars in the process. I felt really guilty after my “losing streak”, but luckily Jason was okay with it given that I haven’t made a financially error like this in quite some time… Lesson Learned: NEVER go to Vegas. Ha!

Next up on our exciting weekend agenda was yard work on Saturday! This sounds sarcastic, but I actually do enjoy yard work – at least when everything is finished! Thanks to our neighbors electric trimmer, we finished up trimming our big azalea patch really quickly. I spent some time raking up crazy amounts of pine straw and pine cones that cover our side yard and also did some weeding. We also invested in a little sprinkler to get some especially dry areas of our lawn. It has been a killer summer already in Augusta and it is only the beginning of June! Now I know how stupid we were two years ago when we planned our moving day for June 20th! In addition to the heat, it hasn’t rained much at all. I do love the sun and can’t complain, but I can’t help feeling sorry for our parched yard sometimes ๐Ÿ™

We ran some errands and I got some new running shoes in preparation for the upcoming Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta on July 4th – note to self- “Stop running inside and start running outside in the heat or you will die in a month when you try to run the Peachtree!” That new plan starts tomorrow!

After errands came a Relay for Life Bowling Tournament with my company MAU Workforce Solutions – shameless plug, I am in marketing after all! We had lots of fun and teamed up with my fellow marketeer Stephanie and her bf Nick. Strangely enough, I had the best bowling night of my life and even scored a whopping 141 points! I even ranked #2 of all the ladies! Too bad there were only prizes for #1 – so not fair! Here are some pics of the night:

After bowling, we had a spontaneous date at the infamous Takosushi – get it? Taco-Sushi? Yes, they do serve Mexican food and Sushi under one roof. The positives of this are that if you have a date who hates sushi – like me, you can still experience sushi for yourself! But, I found out that I love Mexican too much to pass it up. We had some great homemade tortilla chips and salsa, some beef taquitos, and some fish quesadillas- all very yummy. We even finished it off with Jason’s favorite – Creme Brulee!

On Sunday, we did the usual – church in the morning, followed by lunch – we splurged on Little Ceasar’s Hot N’ Ready Pizza- yeah, we are real high-class ๐Ÿ™‚ Then I accomplished lots around the house while Jason studied before we hung out with our friends Charlie and Anne to play Settlers of Catan America. If you haven’t tried this game you must! Just ask, we are always ready to play with willing participants! Yes- we are gamers and proud of it!

Until next time!
