Our Valentine’s Day!

Well, that time of year has come and gone. The time of year when flowers are marked up 768%, chocolate truffles are consumed by the truckload, and the horribly cheesy romantic Hallmark greetings nauseate the insides a little bit. Seriously, I think cupid has it out for us. He comes across as a cute cuddly little critter, but after all, he is shooting arrows into our hearts. But anyway, if you haven’t gathered yet, I’m referring to another Valentine’s day that has come and gone. The ‘ol 2/14 day. And as much as the day is commercialized and marketed and all feely-feely, it can still be done right and it can be a great time for couples to just hang out outside of the everyday routine. That’s how it was for Laura and myself this year.

This year’s Valentines was really great, partially because we actually celebrated it on the Saturday before. So the restaurants weren’t that crowded and traffic wasn’t that terrible. It was a fun evening. We went to a local restaurant called the French Market Grille in Surry Center. It was our first time there and it was most excellent. It was made even more excellent because Laura’s company gave her a gift card to this restaurant. So our V-day dinner was on the house! The atmosphere is business casual and the food was creole/cajun inspired. The dishes that we tasted were excellent. I had the crab-cake dinner and Laura tried a shrimp creole dinner. Both were phenomenal and the side dishes of veggies were so fresh and tasty. After the main course, we dined on probably the most tantalizing piece of peanut butter pie in the universe. So good. So the dining experience was definitely top notch. We give it a “two satisfied and full bellies” rating on the BRRS. After the dinner, we headed home and tried to watch a movie, but for some reason we were both exhausted and fell asleep at like 10:30. It was either a long week that caught up with us, a dining experience that relaxed us so much, sleepiness overpowered our consciousness, or the restaurants special seasoning was actually Ambien. Anyway, it was a fun evening and it always a fun time with Laura. Here are some pictures of the evening.

Laura taking a break from the bread and salad to provide a pretty smile
Me taking a break from devouring my mega crab cake to smile
Laura dish: Shrimp Etoufee (good luck on the pronunciation of that one)
My dish: Crab cake with rice and veggies with a home made crab cake sauce..mmm
The finisher:  The peanut butter pie, which apparently is a dessert that has won some awards here in Augusta.  It lived up to it’s expectations
Now, please take note that we still celebrated our love a little bit on the actual Valentines Day, it was just more low key because we both got back late from work and school and were kind of tired.  We got each other some cards (not the nauseating kind) and I got Laura a box of chocolates.  What is crazy is that the day of Valentines, they were already 50% off and Easter candy was being stocked.  You no longer have to wait to get great savings.  The stuff is marked down the day of…which is awesome!  Here are a few pictures from yesterday.  Pardon our appearance, as I said before it was a long day.
