Weekend Recap

The whole reason that I started this blog was to document our lives. Sometimes I feel like life goes by so fast that you can hardly take it all in! Sometimes, I think back to two or three weekends ago and can’t even remember what we did each day. This makes me sad – I want to try to remember as many details as possible. I realize that these type of posts may not be the most popular, but I’m pretty sure we’ll have lots of fun re-reading them later on….

On Friday night, we had Date Night which is always fun. We def. look forward to our date nights since they can be few and far between since we are trying to live on one income while Jason is in school. But anywho – I came home from work and we bundled up for a walk outside in our neighborhood. One of my favorite things about our house is our neighborhood. Although our neighborhood isn’t all that big, it is interconnected with lots of other neighborhoods – one of them being Springlakes. Springlakes is a beautiful neighborhood that is full of lakes (hence the name), really peaceful, and full of beautiful homes that are well out of our price range. I just feel safe walking or running there.

After our walk, we cleaned up a bit and ventured out with the intention of eating at Carrabba’s. When we pulled up, we were warned by the huddle of people standing outside the main entrance. Sure enough the wait was 65-70 minutes! I can’t believe that anyone would even consider waiting that long! Well, on to plan B, which was Outback. Again, to our dismay, the wait was 55-60 minutes! By this time, I was getting pretty hungry, so even 55 minutes was way to long. I walked across the parking lot to see how long the line was at Bonefish and it was equally as bad. When Jason picked me up at the entrance, I was so hungry, I suggested that we eat at Waffle House. At this point, we decided that we would never try to go out to eat on a Friday night in Augusta at 7:30pm – bad idea. We ended up at Macaroni Grill – not nearly as good as Carrabba’s, but still – we didn’t have to cook and it satisfied our craving for good italian food. We shared some calamari and some Caesar salad and I had their Sausage Vesuvio (Italian sausage sauteed with orecchiette pasta, arugula, roasted tomatoes, cannellini beans and extra virgin olive oil) and Jason had the Roasted Chicken Cannelloni (Hand-rolled pasta filled with roasted chicken baked with creamy arugula pesto and zesty tomato sauce). Both were yummy – but our favorite part had to be the bread! After that we came home just hung out and watched movies on Netflix. I discovered the cutest song I’ve heard in a long time as the trailer to the movie “An Education” – it’s called “On the Rebound” – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdVVq2mDbjc

On Saturday, we woke up kinda early so Jason could go observe an aquatics therapy session – or something like that- with his PT class group at the Wheeler YMCA. I went along and worked out. After that, we ran some errands – which I actually really love doing. We went to Target and Lifeway – to get the book Radical for our new Bible Study. We got back, had a quick lunch, and then got started on some yardwork.

We are trying to get a head start on the yard this year in preparation for our Masters Rental because of some lessons learned last year. Last year, we did most of the prep work for the rental the weekend before our renters arrived. That weekend also ended up having the worst pollen I have EVER EXPERIENCED IN MY ENTIRE LIFE! I’m not allergic to anything – at least nothing that I’ve discovered so far. Well, last year,  when we spend two entire days outside, I couldn’t stop sneezing. The whole two days, we were covered in green dust. It got so bad that Jason had to use a leaf blower to blow off the green coating from our deck! So this weekend we accomplished the following, weeding the yard, weeding the beds, spraying the beds with weed killer, raking the yard for all the pinecones and pinestraw that fell over the winter, re-seeding some especially bad spots in the lawn, etc. Here are some pics to show our progress so far.

On Saturday evening, I met my friend Lesley-Anne to see Super-Blogger Pioneer Woman talk in our very own city of Augusta! She came to talk about Home Schooling at our library that morning – I passed on that – but in the evening she discussed all of her blogging adventures and then there was refreshments and time for autographs. It was really cool to hear her story and I got some great blogging tips too. I had to jet early though to make sure I got home in time to leave with Jason to visit our friends Josh and Liz. We had a great time visiting with them, talking a bunch, playing with their new baby girl, and even playing some Scattergories.
On the way home from their house – oh about 11:30 – I realized that we had signed up to bring breakfast for Sunday School. No biggie. So we decided to swing by Kroger on the way home. Even though we were like zombies in grocery, we got what we needed for me to whip up some muffins in the morning. I set my alarm extra early to ensure I had time to get breakfast made in the morning. I woke up at 7:30, which I thought would be plenty early for our class at 9:20. I walked out to our kitchen in PJs and saw that the stove clock said 8:30 – then it dawned on me. It was daylight savings time! I ran back to our room, woke Jason up, and we were outta the house in about 10 minutes on our way to pick up some Dunkin’ Donuts for the class. The funny thing about our crazy morning and lack of sleep is that we got there WAY earlier than ever! The class before us wasn’t even out!
After church, I got to relax by doing my favorite thing, reading the newspaper outside! It was a glorious day and after some more yard work and some cookie baking, Jason and I even squeezed in a bike ride around the neighborhood. The best part of that day was that I got to wear shorts and a t-shirt for the first time! And I wasn’t even cold! I love warm weather! We made the night even better by picking up some pizza at Dominos. Normally, we never stray from old faithful – Papa Johns’ (we swear that we have the BEST Papa John’s franchise ever on N. Belair Rd.). But this time, we couldn’t pass up the money saving deal that Dominos had going. That night we watched the Secret Millionaire and just hung out.
Here’s a video that Jason captured of our Sunday. Pardon the excessive squinting! p.s. sometimes we have a little too much fun with our flip video camera!

All in all, it was a great weekend – one that will be remembered in all its uneventfulness thanks to this blog! I’ll finish off with the inevitable Monday question: “How was your weekend?”

  1. Sounds like the perfect weekend! Are we still on for our yard sale this Saturday?
You know, I should probably call you instead of commenting on your blog. I've been too busy to write on mine, so I prefer reading yours. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. I'm so jealous you got to see/her P-Dub!! What fun! I didn't know she was going to be in the AUG…could have made a trip home for that one! On another note, I think it is so fun reading your blog and thinking of Augusta from a "grown up" perspective…I absolutely love Augusta, but haven't lived there (full time) since I was 18…so I just never think about what it's like to do grown-up life there. Fun! ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Love the after picture. I totally agree with you about those weeds…it's a never-ending project. But, rewarding when its done. ๐Ÿ™‚
