So when two of my favorite bloggers, Young House Love and Bower Power, teamed up to do the Pinterest Challenge this week, I couldn’t help but participate! My Pinterest: http://pinterest.com/lbaareman/
It all started when I saw this image on Pinterest from the Baby Blackbird Blog.
I knew that I wanted to do this abstract type painting, but with a different quote. So I used Pinterest again and looked over all my favorite quotes I had collected on my Pinterest “Quotes Board” and found the quote I wanted to use.
I went to Michael’s with some of my siblings and picked up a 24x36in white canvas board ($24.99, but actually only $18.75 with coupon) and two packs of 2 inch high Helvetica Vinyl Peel and Stick letters ($6 per pack, but only $10 total with coupon) – the closest I could find online were these here. Some are made to peel and stick, and some are meant to stay on. I chose the peel and stick ones, but was kind of upset when the paint bled through them a little bit. Next time, I might use the non-peel and stick ones to see if less paint would bleed through.
At home, I placed the letters as straight as I could and justified the rows to the right. This took a bit of time. After that, I found some old acrylic paint we had lying around, squirted a few similar colors on a paper plate and channeled my inner child – or attempted to be “artfully abstract”. Here’s a pic in the garage before I peeled off the letters. Sorry for the fuzziness, I took this on my phone…
I waited a few hours for it to dry (since acrylic dries pretty fast), then carefully pulled the letters off. Here’s some pics we took today of the final product. Like the quote?
